PISTA project was funded by the European Commission under the 5th RTD Framework Programme. The project’s main objective was an actual implementation of the interoperable Electronic Fee Collection (EFC) throughout a corridor along several European motorways. The most significant motorways of South Europe (Spain, France, Italy, Greece) were included in this project, as well as the link between Denmark and Sweden.
PISTA project had been conceived in a multinational environment taking into account existing EFC systems. Within the PISTA project, the EFC interoperable system was implemented and tested in different motorway sites and pilot demonstrations were undertaken in sites where toll systems had already been operative but not interoperable. Finally, the results validation and assessment were provided as well as the overall evaluation of the project quality.
Our role, as consultants to the Greek National Highway Fund (TEO S.A.), was to proceed with the necessary activities related to the relevant work package regarding the assessment and evaluation of the results as well as the quality validation of the overall project. Our company undertook the task of collecting the necessary data regarding five toll stations. Data collected were used for quantitative analysis (PEC tests, data collection for real and simulated users), qualitative analysis and user acceptance (distribution of questionnaires etc.). Finally, our company provided consultation to TEO S.A for the commercial operation of the Electronic Fee Collection system “TEOPASS”, which had been already installed in five toll stations, within the framework of the PISTA project.
