Within the framework of this project, our role included the management, monitoring and operation of the Olympic Transportation system during the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.

Within the framework of this project and based on past experience on Olympic Games, several tasks were carried out, which mainly referred to the management, monitoring and operation of the Olympic Transportation system during the Olympic Games in Athens (2004). More specifically, we contributed in developing a simulation model and analysing several operation scenarios for transportation systems, in order to determine the optimal scenario, implement it during the design of the Olympic Transportation system, and ensure its optimal operation.

Moreover, we participated in the development of transportation network and systems, in terms of the vehicle fleet available for the transportation of athletes and journalists, as well as the resources management network, in order to identify and assess certain risks related to the transportation systems. At the same time, we developed risk management methodologies, in order to be implemented during the Olympic Games and we clearly defined all responsibilities.

Other activities undertaken during the implementation of the project refer to the risk management for the Olympic sites (Olympic sports facilities, Olympic Villages, other facilities and road events) and the Olympic Control Centers, as well as to the identification and assessment of the vulnerability levels of each site and risks. More specifically, we developed a protocol for all management, motoring and communications activities and tasks, in order to clearly identify all responsibilities for the transportation units and customer services units within the Olympic sites. The ultimate goal was to determine and manage all risks that might have interrupted smooth operations during the Olympic Games in Athens. It is noted that the development of risk management methodologies was based on all possible combinations of risks and scenarios, as well as on the appropriate planning of responses to these scenarios. The development of risk management methodologies was an important part of the operations and management scheme for the Olympic Transportation system.
